Hello, my Lovelies!
On Wednesday, I was invited to the VIP launch of the Caribbean restaurant and bar Turtle Bay, with 55 restaurants across the UK, it has now arrived in Middlesbrough!
There has been a £800k investment in the 4,144sq ft site that has transformed the interior and exterior to a capacity of 231 seats. With a vibrant, welcoming and sociable atmosphere, your spirits are lifted as soon as walk in.
Their mission is to capture the spirit of celebration that the Caribbean is famed for around the globe – making customers happy by delivering a hedonistic combination of joyous food, wicked drinks and a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Turtle Bay is all about celebrating the lively, colourful, soulful and, above all, delicious experiences that the Caribbean has to offer – from rich and explosive flavours to laid back ‘liming’.
My boyfriend came with me as my plus one, and some moral support as this was the first event as a blogger I had attended. But little did I know that we would spend the evening with some lovely bloggers, including Danni, Luce, Lucy, Beth, Eleanor & Kirsty.
When we arrived we were greeted with cocktails, to which I began with Reggae Rum Mix, and Tom had the Passion Fruit Cooler. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable, informing us about the different rums and Caribbean cuisine. Their use of knowledge, allows them to get to know your dietary requirements before you even take a look at the menu. We couldn’t have asked for better customer service!
With other 40 different rums, and Caribbean twists on cocktail classics, including mojitos and Pimms, drinks flowed all evening and they were quite simply delicious. They also serve a variety of mocktails, so you are sure to find something you will enjoy. Our particular favourites being Marley Mojito, Caribbean Pimms, Watermelon Crush, Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie, as well as the homemade Limeade and Ginger Beer.
Now onto the food! As I am a fan of spice, I couldn’t wait to try some of the Caribbean delicacies. They kindly treated us to practically the whole menu, which includes a wide range of curries, sharing platters and jerk chicken dishes. They even offer alternative vegetarian options, and each meal is available from a mild to high spice seasoning.
For our first meal we got a vegetarian platter, and as this is something I’ve never tried before, I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and tuck into the delicacies, which was mainly contained a watermelon or pineapple glaze. My favourite part of the platter was the Double, which is a street vendor style bara roti, with curried chickpeas, fresh cucumber chutney and coconut shavings. A Caribbean alternative of a naan bread & poppadom combined, quite simply delicious!
We were also served with another palette, which included Steak Ribs with an orange chutney and coconut jerk glaze and the Jerk Chicken Wings. They were so tender and yummy!
The next two courses were two curries, with both a vegetarian & beef option, which was then followed by a Full Jerk Chicken served with both sweet potato fries and rice & peas.
Once again I’m not a vegetarian, but I honestly preferred the vegetarian option to the classic beef version. To which the curry included butter beans, sweet potato, spinach and aubergine.
And now onto the most exciting dish! Especially for the launch, the chef had created a jerk chicken Parmo, which is a local delicacy with chicken breast topped with breadcrumbs, bechamel sauce and cheese. Which was a real treat for us all, and I hope they add it their permanent menu!
Last but not least we were treated to the dessert platter, which was just a taste sensation! With the Banoffee Cheesecake, Chocolate Brownies, Rum & Raisin Bread Pudding & the Passion Fruit Meringue Cake. It was all quite simply delicious!
I was shocked by how much of a variety of food was available, so you will quite simply find something perfect for you. And with 2-for-1 cocktails, I can see this being the new hotspot for food and drinks!
I would like to say thank you to Turtle Bay for inviting me to the launch, I had a lovely evening and to have met some lovely girls who I hope to see very soon, go give them some virtual love! I will definitely be going back for more.
Thank-you for reading
lots of love
